Haskell Dunn: A Life of Ministry and Service with the We Care Program in Atmore, AL

H. Haskell Dunn, a devoted minister and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, passed away on December 29th, 2024, at the age of 83, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. His life, which began in Milford, Delaware, was largely dedicated to ministry across several states and to serving others, including his impactful volunteer work with the We Care Program in Atmore, AL.

Graduating from Vigor High School in Prichard, Alabama, in 1960, Haskell immediately enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving for four years. Upon returning to his hometown of Mobile, Alabama, a profound spiritual awakening led him to dedicate his life to Christian ministry. He pursued higher education at Mobile College (now the University of Mobile), graduating in 1984, to better equip himself for his calling.

For over 45 years, Reverend Dunn served congregations in Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Ohio, and Florida. Even after retiring from full-time church staff positions, his commitment to ministry continued through music evangelism and pastoral care. Beyond his pastoral roles, Haskell’s compassionate heart led him to volunteer with the We Care Program in Atmore, AL, demonstrating his deep commitment to serving individuals in need within the prison system. This volunteer work exemplified his belief in extending care and faith to all corners of his community.

Described by a fellow pastor as “one of the Few Good Men that every Pastor needs,” Haskell Dunn was remembered as a man deeply devoted to God, his family, and his country. His life was a testament to his love for people, and he consistently shared his faith with everyone he encountered.

Haskell is survived by his wife of 63 years, Faye, his children Terri (Deborah LaRussa) and Mike (Laurie), eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. His legacy is fondly remembered; his daughter Terri affectionately called him “Rock Star” because of his widespread পরিচিতি and the countless lives he touched.

Funeral services to celebrate Haskell’s life will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, located at 6040 Three Notch Rd., Mobile, AL 36619. Visitation is scheduled for 11:00 am on January 6, 2025, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 pm, and graveside service afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support the We Care Program at Atmore, AL, further extending Haskell’s commitment to this impactful ministry.
