Rooted in a commitment to superior healthcare value, defined by exceptional quality and cost-effectiveness, this program actively contributes to McLaren Flint’s mission by educating the next generation of doctors. Furthermore, McLaren Flint proudly sponsors the McLaren Center for Advanced Psychology Training (MICAPT), an APA-accredited postdoctoral fellowship in clinical health psychology, integrating behavioral health expertise into family medicine.

A distinctive feature of the program is its emphasis on Lifestyle Medicine. All incoming residents receive training in this crucial field, positioning them to pursue Board Certification in Lifestyle Medicine upon graduation, reflecting a proactive approach to preventative care. The program boasts a strong community engagement element, with faculty physicians actively providing medical services to underserved populations through collaborations with the Genesee County Health Department, Carriage Town Ministries, and Spartan Street Medicine, including outreach to Flint area elementary schools and the homeless community.

The clinical team at McLaren Flint offers a wide spectrum of expertise, ensuring residents receive well-rounded training. This includes access to a Geriatrician and a specialized Geriatric Assessment Clinic, a Lifestyle Medicine certified Family Medicine Physician, and a Comprehensive Diabetes Clinic. Moreover, the program integrates robust women’s health services with a Board-certified Gynecologist/Obstetrician, a Family Medicine physician fellowship-trained in women’s health, a dedicated Women’s Health Nurse Navigator, and a Lactation Consultant. Behavioral Medicine Specialists are also integral, fostering an integrated and holistic patient care approach. McLaren Flint’s Family Medicine Residency program champions a philosophy of lifelong learning, equipping residents with the necessary tools and opportunities for continuous professional development.

Located in an urban setting, the program’s primary admitting hospital is McLaren Regional Medical Center. This is a 3-year program with 6 positions offered and filled for each year (PGY-1, PGY-2, PGY-3), and it features a Residential Organization, fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment for all residents.
