Secure Your wiTECH 2 Access: Setting Up Multi-Factor Authentication

Witech 2, the diagnostic software for FCA vehicles, utilizes Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for enhanced security. This added layer of protection safeguards your account and sensitive information from unauthorized access. This guide outlines the process of setting up MFA for your wiTECH 2 account using Okta Verify, Google Authenticator, or a YubiKey. Understanding and implementing MFA is crucial for all wiTECH 2 users.

Understanding wiTECH 2 MFA Options

Currently, wiTECH 2 supports three primary MFA methods:

  • Okta Verify Mobile App: Okta’s dedicated authentication app provides push notifications and time-based one-time passwords (TOTP).

  • Google Authenticator Mobile App: A widely used TOTP app that generates verification codes on your mobile device.

  • YubiKey: A hardware authentication device offering strong security.

Losing or damaging your device when using Okta Verify or Google Authenticator can disrupt access to your wiTECH 2 account. To mitigate this risk, it’s highly recommended to link multiple devices to your Okta account.

Linking Multiple Devices for wiTECH 2 Access

Before proceeding, ensure your Okta account is already set up. If not, refer to the FCA wiTECH Knowledge Base article: How-To Create an Okta Login Account.

Follow these steps to link multiple devices:

  1. Log in to Okta: Navigate to https://fcawitech.okta.com and enter your credentials.

  2. Access Settings: After logging in, click the Settings option in the dropdown menu under your username.

  3. Navigate to Extra Verification: Scroll down to the Extra Verification section to view available MFA options.

  4. Reset Your Chosen Authenticator: Click Reset next to either Google Authenticator Mobile App or Okta Verify Mobile App.

If the Reset button is unavailable, click Edit Profile at the top, re-authenticate, and then try again.

  5. Confirm Token Revocation: A prompt will appear confirming the revocation of your current Okta token. Click Yes. This will invalidate existing authenticator setups.

Important: All previously linked devices will require re-setup using the new QR code generated in the next steps.

  6. Setup Your Authenticator: Select Setup next to your preferred authenticator (Google Authenticator or Okta Verify).

  7. Select Device Type: Choose your phone type (Android or iPhone) and click Next.

  8. Scan the QR Code: A QR code will be displayed. Scan this code with all devices you want to use for wiTECH 2 authentication. After scanning with each device, click Next.

  9. Verify Setup: Enter the 6-digit code from one of your linked devices and click Verify. A success message will confirm the setup. Click Done.

Troubleshooting wiTECH 2 MFA Setup

If verification fails, double-check the code accuracy and ensure you’re using the correct account within your authenticator app. Repeat the steps if necessary. For persistent issues, contact the wiTECH Help Desk: wiTECH Premium Support Helpdesk Contact Information.

By following these steps, you can ensure secure access to your wiTECH 2 account and protect your valuable diagnostic data. Multi-factor authentication is a critical component of modern cybersecurity, and understanding its implementation with wiTECH 2 is essential for all users.
