Wessel Honda: A New Chapter Under Pinegar Family Ownership

The Springfield area automotive landscape is changing with the Pinegar family’s acquisition of Wessel Honda. This transition brings together two families with deep roots and decades of experience in the local car industry. Formerly Don Wessel Honda, led by John Wessel since 2012, the dealership is now under the leadership of Tad Pinegar, marking a significant expansion for the Pinegar automotive group.

Pinegar Family Expands to Springfield with Wessel Honda Acquisition

For over 20 years, the Pinegar family, known for their Chevrolet dealership in Republic and a multi-brand location in Branson, has sought a presence in Springfield. The acquisition of Wessel Honda, located at 3520 S. Campbell Ave., fulfills this long-term goal. The dealership, including its service center, will be rebranded as Pinegar Honda, retaining its existing staff.

The Pinegars have emphasized their commitment to upholding the excellent reputation and customer service that Don Wessel Honda established. Tad Pinegar expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition and his confidence in the dealership’s future success under the Pinegar Honda name. This sentiment echoes a November 24th Facebook post from Wessel Honda announcing the change in ownership and assuring customers of a seamless transition.

A Legacy of Automotive Excellence in Springfield

Don Wessel’s automotive career began in the 1950s selling Chevrolets. After owning a Buick dealership in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he established an Oldsmobile dealership in Springfield in 1966. In the 1970s, Wessel added Honda to his portfolio, solidifying his presence in the local market. While Oldsmobile was a cornerstone of his business for over three decades, the brand was discontinued by General Motors, leading Wessel to focus on Honda.

The Pinegar family’s automotive journey spans 42 years, originating with founder Ed Pinegar. Both Don Wessel and Ed Pinegar were considered pioneers in the Springfield automotive scene. The acquisition of Wessel Honda represents a continuation of their shared legacy of dedication and customer-focused service.

Tad Pinegar Prepared to Lead Pinegar Honda

In preparation for taking over the Honda brand, Tad Pinegar has been collaborating closely with American Honda Motor Co. He has received guidance from Melissa Piper, assistant zone manager for American Honda, ensuring a smooth transition and adherence to the brand’s standards. This partnership underscores the Pinegar family’s commitment to providing exceptional service and maintaining the high standards set by Don Wessel Honda. The acquisition signals a new chapter for Wessel Honda, built on a foundation of established excellence and driven by the Pinegar family’s vision for the future.
