Crucially, prior acute care experience is not a prerequisite for joining the program, making it an ideal avenue for nurses transitioning into this specialized field.

Rotation Structure: A Phased Approach to Acute Care Immersion

The Acute Care Rotation Program at TGH is thoughtfully structured into six sessions, completed over 36 weeks, ensuring a progressive and immersive learning experience:

  • Session 1 (12 Weeks): Begin with a new team member orientation and the acute care transition program. You’ll then train in your first unit, followed by 3-4 weeks as a team member in that same unit, solidifying your initial acute care foundation.
  • Session 2 (8 Weeks): Expand your horizons with two weeks of training in a new unit, followed by six weeks of team member engagement, broadening your clinical skills.
  • Session 3 (8 Weeks): Further diversify your experience with one week of training in another unit, and then deepen your practical application with seven weeks as a team member.
  • Session 4 (8 Weeks): Refine your adaptability with a one-shift (12 hours) training in a new unit, and spend the remaining program duration as a contributing team member, showcasing your accumulated expertise.

Program participants also benefit from a balanced schedule, with every other weekend off and half of all nationally recognized holidays free.
