The Scioto County Career Technical Center (SCCTC) offers a comprehensive Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to Registered Nurse (RN) diploma program. This program provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the nursing field and successfully transition from an LPN to an RN.
Program Overview and Curriculum
The SCCTC LPN to RN program focuses on developing essential nursing competencies, including:
- Foundational Nursing Skills: Building upon your existing LPN knowledge, the program reinforces core nursing principles and practices.

The program aims to prepare graduates for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN exam is required to obtain RN licensure in Ohio. The program is a hybrid format, spanning 900 hours (approximately one year), with a total cost of $14,425. Class, lab, and clinical hours will vary.
Admission Requirements and Application Process
To be eligible for the SCCTC LPN to RN program, prospective students must:
- Submit a completed application for admission.
- Provide an official transcript from an approved practical nursing program. Graduates from Scioto County’s PN program or any NCSBN-approved program are welcome to apply.
- Hold a current and valid LPN license in Ohio or a recognized interstate compact license.
- Achieve a proficient or higher score on a pre-entrance exam administered by the program. Contact the program administrator to schedule the exam after applying.
The application deadline is the first Friday in June.

Post-Acceptance Requirements
Upon acceptance into the program, students must fulfill the following requirements:
- Attend a mandatory orientation session.
- Obtain current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification (online courses are not accepted).
- Finalize financial arrangements for tuition and fees.
- Undergo BCI and FBI background checks.
- Submit a physician’s release form.
- Provide documentation of current healthcare immunizations.
- Complete a drug screening test.
