Porsche Master: Crafting Custom Steering Wheels for Porsche Enthusiasts

After three months of enjoying my Porsche GT4, the only complaint I had was the Racetex steering wheel. While the car’s performance was exceptional, the steering wheel’s feel wasn’t to my liking, even with gloves. Seeking an OEM replacement proved expensive, leading me to discover Rennmeister (formerly known as Porsche Master), a company specializing in semi-custom, OEM-look aftermarket steering wheels. This review details my experience purchasing and installing a custom steering wheel from Rennmeister, purchased at full price.

Rennmeister’s communication was excellent, with responses to my inquiries arriving within a day. The wheel itself arrived within a week, impressive considering its international origin. Installation was straightforward, guided by online resources detailing steering wheel removal for Porsche models. Using chopsticks to release the airbag proved surprisingly effective, and the entire process was quick and easy, with no airbag light appearing after installation.

The Rennmeister steering wheel impressed with its near-OEM quality in both appearance and feel. The leather, while not perfectly matching the original, was close enough, and the overall craftsmanship was excellent. The red stitching, however, was slightly brighter than the car’s other red leather accents.

A more noticeable difference lay in the airbag cover. The Rennmeister version featured a distinct logo, font, and lettering compared to the more subdued original. I ultimately opted to retain the original airbag and cover for a consistent look.

Despite these minor discrepancies, the Rennmeister steering wheel significantly enhanced my driving experience. The improved feel of the leather notably elevates the overall enjoyment of the car. Rennmeister (formerly Porsche Master) provides a compelling alternative for Porsche owners seeking a high-quality, customizable steering wheel at a fraction of the OEM price.
