PA Primary Care Loan Repayment Program: Application and Award Process

The Pennsylvania Primary Care Loan Repayment Program helps healthcare providers working in underserved areas pay off their educational loans. This guide walks you through the application process, award notification, and service obligation.

Applying for the PA Primary Care Loan Repayment Program

After submitting your online application, you’ll receive a confirmation. Keep a copy of your application for your records.

Checking Application Status

To view your application status, log into your account on the program portal. You can also download copies of your application, supporting documents, and completed electronic verifications (EVs).

Making Changes to Your Application

You can edit your application and upload new documents after submission, but all final changes must be resubmitted and certified by the application deadline. Only completed applications will be considered for an award. “In Progress” applications are not eligible.

Withdrawing Your Application

You can withdraw your application any time before the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), or a designated representative, signs the contract. More information is available in the Application and Program Guidance.

Evaluation Process

Applications are evaluated based on specific selection factors and funding priorities to determine award recipients. This review process begins after the application deadline.

Award Finalist Notification for PA Primary Care Loan Repayment

If you’re selected as an award finalist, you’ll receive an email notification by September 30. You’ll need to log into the program portal to:

  • Confirm your continued interest in the award.
  • Verify your loan and employment information.
  • Confirm you’ve read and understand the Loan Repayment Program contract (e-signature required upon award acceptance).

You’ll also need to provide your bank account information for direct deposit of award funds. Respond by the deadline in the Confirmation of Interest email.

Consequences of Non-Response

Failing to complete the Confirmation of Interest by the deadline may disqualify your application. To participate in the future, you’ll need to submit a new application during the next application cycle and compete under the new program requirements.

Award Determination

The HHS Secretary, or their designee, has sole authority to grant awards under the Pa Primary Care Loan Repayment Program.

Award Notification Timeline

Final award notifications, including service obligation dates, are sent by September 30. You’ll also be notified by this date if you are not selected for an award.
