Genie Pro Screw Drive Program to Car: Your Comprehensive Guide

Effortlessly integrating your car’s remote system with your Genie garage door opener enhances convenience and security. Modern vehicles often come equipped with built-in systems like HomeLink and Car2U, designed to operate garage doors without the need for separate remotes. These systems, typically featuring three buttons located on your visor or overhead console, draw power directly from your car’s electrical system, eliminating battery concerns associated with traditional handheld remotes. Genie garage door openers are fully compatible with both HomeLink and Car2U, providing seamless integration. HomeLink systems are identifiable by a single LED indicator and often a house icon on the center button, while Car2U systems feature three LEDs, one above each button.

For detailed instructions in PDF format, you can refer to the HomeLink Programming Guide. A video tutorial is also available here.

Step 1: Clearing Existing HomeLink Programs

To begin programming your Genie Pro screw drive system, it’s crucial to clear any pre-existing programs from your HomeLink system. Press and hold the first and third buttons simultaneously for approximately 20 seconds. The HomeLink indicator will initially blink slowly, then transition to a rapid blink. Once the rapid blinking commences, release both buttons.

NOTE: This clearing process will erase all previously programmed garage door openers from your HomeLink system.

Step 2: Training HomeLink with Your Genie Remote

Select the HomeLink button you wish to assign to your Genie garage door opener. Position your Genie remote approximately two inches away from the chosen HomeLink button. Press and hold the button on your Genie remote. While maintaining pressure on the Genie remote button, simultaneously press and hold the selected HomeLink button. Continue holding both buttons until the HomeLink indicator light changes from a slow to a fast blink. Upon observing the rapid blinking, release both buttons.

Step 3: Finalizing Programming with the Genie Opener Unit

The subsequent steps vary slightly depending on whether you have a newer or older Genie garage door opener model.

For Newer Genie Garage Door Openers (Program Button):

  1. Locate the PROGRAM button on your Genie garage door opener’s powerhead. Press and hold this button until the round blue LED illuminates, then release. The long purple LED will begin to flash, indicating programming mode.
  2. Press and hold the chosen HomeLink button for two seconds, then release. Repeat this action, pressing and holding the same HomeLink button again for two seconds and releasing. The long LED should flash blue and then turn off.
  3. Test the connection by pressing the programmed HomeLink button a few times. Your garage door should now respond and move.

For Older Genie Garage Door Openers (Learn Button):

  1. Identify the learn code button on your Genie garage door opener’s powerhead. Press and release this button. The red LED will start blinking, signaling it’s ready to learn.
  2. Press the desired HomeLink button once. The red LED will cease blinking and remain illuminated.
  3. Press the same desired HomeLink button a second time. The red LED will turn off.
  4. Press the HomeLink button once more to test. Your Genie Pro screw drive garage door should now activate.
