Removing the driver door module (DDM) on a Volvo S60 requires taking off the door panel. A screw inside the panel secures the module, preventing direct removal without causing damage. Fortunately, removing the door panel is straightforward.
Start by removing eight button rivets. Push the center of each rivet inward about 1/8 of an inch until you feel a click, then pull it out.
Next, locate the hidden screw on the door handle cover. Shine a flashlight upwards from beneath the cover to find the screwdriver slot. Insert a flat screwdriver about 1/4 inch, gently twist to loosen, and carefully pull the cover off.
Two Torx screws hold the handle to the door. Remove these screws to loosen the panel.
Pull the bottom of the panel inward and upward, separating it about 3 inches from the door.
Disconnect the door handle cable by opening the plastic clips securing it. Unplug the two connectors on the DDM and the speaker connector on the panel.
Reinstallation follows the reverse process.
Before replacing the DDM, consider these troubleshooting questions:
- Are all DDM functions unresponsive? Do the buttons fail to illuminate with the headlights on? Are the windows, locks, and side mirrors inoperable? Or do some functions still work?
- Do the rear windows and passenger window operate using their respective door module buttons?
- Has the DDM been recently replaced, or is it the original?
