Power Up Your Career Launch with RBC ION+ Visa: Maximize Rewards on Essential Spending

Starting your career is an exciting journey, filled with new opportunities and experiences. As you navigate this phase, managing your finances smartly becomes crucial. The RBC ION+ Visa card is designed to be a valuable tool in your career launch toolkit, offering rewards on the everyday spending that comes with building your independent life. Let’s explore how you can leverage the RBC ION+ Visa to earn Avion points and make the most of your initial career years.

One of the standout features of the RBC ION+ Visa is its generous rewards program focused on essential categories. Imagine earning more while spending on necessities like groceries to stock your kitchen, dining out to celebrate milestones, or ordering food delivery when work keeps you late. With the RBC ION+ Visa, you will earn 3 Avion points for every $1.00 spent on eligible purchases within specific Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) at participating merchants.

These bonus categories are tailored to fit the lifestyle of someone launching their career:

  • Grocery, Dining, and Food Delivery Purchases: Stocking your fridge and enjoying meals, whether cooking at home or ordering in, contribute to your Avion points balance. This includes:
    • Grocery Stores and Supermarkets (MCC 5411)
    • Eating Places and Restaurants (MCC 5812)
    • Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages) – Bars, Taverns, Nightclubs, Cocktail Lounges, and Discotheques (MCC 5813)
    • Fast Food Restaurants (MCC 5814)
Note that purchases from government liquor agencies and package stores are excluded from the “Drinking Places” category.

    • Automated Fuel Dispensers (MCC 5542)
    • Taxicabs and Limousines (MCC 4121)

  • Streaming, Digital Gaming & Subscriptions Purchases: In today’s digital world, streaming services, gaming, and online subscriptions are common expenses. You can earn points on:
    • Digital Goods Media – Books, Movies, Music (MCC 5815)
    • Digital Goods – Games (MCC 5816)
    • Digital Goods – Applications (Excludes Games) (MCC 5817)
    • Digital Goods – Large Digital Goods Merchants (MCC 5818)

For all other purchases you make with your RBC ION+ Visa card, including pre-authorized bill payments, you will earn 1 Avion point for every $1.00 spent. This ensures you’re earning rewards on virtually all your spending.

It’s important to remember that reward eligibility is determined by Visa’s Merchant Category Codes (MCCs). While a merchant might sell items that fall into bonus categories, they must be classified under an eligible MCC to qualify for the accelerated earn rate. Similarly, purchases made within a merchant that is classified as eligible, but from a separate, non-eligible merchant located on the premises, will not qualify for bonus points. RBC cannot guarantee merchant classification and is not liable for claims arising from purchases at merchants not classified as eligible MCCs.

Avion points are calculated on net purchases, excluding cash advances, interest charges, fees, and credits from returns or adjustments. Responsible credit card use is key to maximizing benefits and avoiding unnecessary charges.

As you embark on your career, the RBC ION+ Visa card can be a smart financial companion. By earning Avion points on your everyday spending in these key categories, you can accumulate rewards that can be redeemed for travel, merchandise, or even statement credits, giving you extra financial flexibility as you build your future. Consider the RBC ION+ Visa as a strategic tool to power up your career launch and make your money work harder for you right from the start.
