The Panda Cares Scholars Program, a beacon of opportunity for young minds, stands as a testament to the commitment of Panda Cares and Boys & Girls Clubs of America to fostering the next generation of leaders. This scholarship program is designed to provide crucial financial assistance to deserving students, enabling them to pursue their undergraduate dreams and unlock their full potential. By investing in education, Panda Cares helps pave the way for brighter futures and stronger communities.

Who is Eligible for the Panda Cares Scholars Program?

To be considered for this prestigious scholarship, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria, ensuring that the program reaches those who will benefit most from its support. Ideal candidates are associated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and demonstrate both academic promise and financial need. Here’s a breakdown of the key requirements:

  • Boys & Girls Club Affiliation: Applicants must be recognized as a Club Org level Youth of the Year recipient. This accolade highlights exceptional leadership and commitment within the Boys & Girls Club community. Alternatively, students who are Club Org Members and have received funding from Panda Cares within the last four years are also eligible to apply, demonstrating a continued engagement with the organization’s initiatives.
  • Academic Standing: The program is open to high school juniors and seniors, specifically those graduating in the years 2024, 2025, and 2026. A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required, reflecting a commitment to academic achievement.
  • Financial Need: Demonstrated financial need is a significant factor in the selection process. This ensures that the scholarship supports students who may face economic barriers to higher education.
  • Club Attendance Record: Applicants are required to provide documentation verifying the duration of their involvement with their local Boys & Girls Club, further solidifying their connection to the organization.

Scholarship Awards: Investing in Your Future

The Panda Cares Scholars Program offers substantial financial awards to help ease the burden of college expenses. Two tiers of scholarships are available:

  • Youth of the Year Recipient Scholarship: Up to one hundred (100) scholarships of $5,000 each are awarded to outstanding Youth of the Year recipients. This significant award recognizes their exceptional achievements and potential.
  • Club Organization Member Scholarship: Up to one hundred (100) scholarships of $2,500 each are granted to deserving Club Organization Members. This award supports students who have actively participated in and benefited from the Boys & Girls Clubs.

These scholarships are specifically designated for education-related expenses associated with undergraduate study, such as tuition, fees, books, and accommodation. It’s important to note that these are one-time awards and are not renewable in subsequent years.

How to Apply: Required Documents & Application Process

Applying for the Panda Cares Scholars Program is a straightforward process. Applicants need to ensure they submit all necessary documents to be considered:

  • Transcript: A current and complete high school transcript is mandatory. Grade reports are not accepted. The transcript must clearly display the student’s name, school name, grades, and credit hours for each course and term.
  • Online Recommendation: A completed online recommendation from a club staff member is also required, providing valuable insight into the applicant’s character and potential.
  • Optional Test Scores: While not mandatory, applicants may choose to submit SAT or ACT test scores. If scores are not included on the high school transcript, an official copy must be uploaded separately. College transcripts, if provided, negate the need for SAT/ACT scores.
